When an AC stops putting out cold air, most homeowners assume the worst - refrigerant leak, compressor failure, something expensive. But that's exactly why a thorough diagnostic matters before anything else. We don't guess. We trace the problem step by step until we find the actual culprit.

On this call, the system wasn't cooling at all. We opened up the outdoor unit and found a heavily worn contactor - the contacts were pitted and corroded, and it wasn't closing properly to send power to the compressor. That's all it took to shut the whole cooling process down. One small electrical component, big impact on comfort.

We also pulled the air filter and it was completely loaded with dust and debris - completely clogged. A dirty filter like that restricts airflow through the system, which makes everything work harder and can mask other issues during a diagnostic. Swapping it out is a simple step, but it's one that matters for both performance and air quality inside the home.

After replacing the contactor and getting everything back in order, we confirmed cold air was coming through the vents. That's what a proper HVAC diagnostic looks like - not just swapping parts and hoping for the best, but actually finding the root cause and verifying the fix works before we leave.

The honest truth is that a lot of AC issues come down to smaller components that wear out over time. Catching them early - before the system quits completely on a hot day - saves you from a much more stressful situation. If your system is running but not cooling, or cycling on and off without doing much, it's worth having someone take a real look at it.
