A dirty evaporator coil is one of the most common reasons an AC runs all day without actually cooling your home. Most people never think about it. The filter gets changed, the outdoor unit gets a rinse, but the evaporator coil inside the air handler? It gets ignored. And over time, it gets packed with dust, debris, and buildup that chokes the whole system.
That's exactly what we found on this job. The coil was heavily coated - fins completely blocked, airflow severely restricted. When a coil gets that dirty, the system can't absorb heat properly. It just keeps running, your energy bill climbs, and the house stays warm. Not a refrigerant problem. Not a compressor problem. A coil that needed a proper cleaning.
We pulled it, cleaned it thoroughly, and got the system back in a condition where it could actually do its job. After the coil cleaning, we connected our Fieldpiece SMAN manifold gauge set to check the refrigerant system. Pressures, superheat, subcooling - we verified everything was dialed in on R-410A. We also used a refrigerant scale to monitor exactly how much refrigerant was in play, so nothing was guessed at.
The final air temp check inside the home told the whole story. Cold air was back. That's the goal every time - not just fix the symptom, but diagnose the actual cause and make sure the whole system is operating the way it should. That's what real AC diagnostics and air conditioner maintenance look like.
If your system is running but not keeping up, don't assume it needs a full replacement. A lot of the time, it's something that can be fixed. We serve Memphis, Cordova, Bartlett, Collierville, East Memphis, and the surrounding Shelby County area.
