This Goodman condenser had stopped keeping up. The homeowner noticed the system was running but the house just wouldn't cool down - a classic sign that something underneath the hood had given out. That's exactly the kind of call we run our AC no cooling diagnostic for.

When we got into it, we found two problems working against the system at the same time. The dual capacitor had failed, which is one of the most common reasons an AC unit runs but can't do its job. On top of that, the refrigerant was low. Neither issue alone would have been kind to the system, but both together meant the unit was working hard and delivering almost nothing.

We swapped out the dual capacitor and then hooked up the Fieldpiece SMAN manifold gauge to get accurate pressure and superheat readings on the R-410A system. We used the Xetron refrigerant scale to measure exactly how much refrigerant went back in - no guessing, no eyeballing it. The goal is always to hit the manufacturer's spec so the system runs the way it was designed to, not just good enough to limp through the day.

Getting the pressures dialed in matters more than most people realize. Too little refrigerant and the system starves. Too much and you risk damaging the compressor. That's why we use proper instrumentation on every recharge - it protects the equipment and gives the homeowner a system that actually performs.

The fix here wasn't complicated, but catching it early made a real difference. A failed capacitor left too long can take the compressor with it, and that's a much bigger repair bill. Small issues handled at the right time keep costs down and keep your home comfortable when you need it most - especially when summer heat isn't letting up.
