If your AC is running but the house just won't cool down, two of the most common culprits are low refrigerant and a clogged air filter. They're easy to overlook, but the impact on your comfort - and your equipment - is significant.

Here's what we were working with on this one. The old filter was completely caked with dust and debris - the kind of buildup that chokes off airflow and forces your system to work overtime just to keep up. Swapping it out for a fresh Purafilter 2000 is a straightforward fix, but it's one that makes an immediate difference in how the system breathes and how clean the air in your home actually is.

On the refrigerant side, we hooked up our Fieldpiece manifold gauge set to pull real data from the system. Checking suction and discharge pressures, superheat, subcooling - all of it together tells us exactly where the refrigerant charge stands and what the system needs. No guessing. We also used a refrigerant scale to dial in the charge accurately, so the system gets what it needs and nothing more.

When low refrigerant and a dirty filter are both working against your system at the same time, your compressor takes the hit. It runs longer, struggles harder, and wears out faster. Getting both corrected in the same visit puts the system back in balance and takes the strain off the equipment that's most expensive to replace.

A refrigerant recharge paired with a filter replacement is one of the highest-value tune-ups you can do for your AC - especially heading into the hottest months of the year. If your system has been underperforming, a proper diagnostic is the right first step.
